The problem of youngsters indulging in anti-social activity can be tackled by opening recreation facilities to keep them busy in good activities as well as religious guidance, say experts.

Two notorious incidents during the past two years come at the top of some of the cases in Al-Qasim of youths involved in immoral acts in the open, leading to their arrest.

In one case, a video clip on social networking sites showed a young man dancing naked. When the incident was brought to the notice of authorities, some teenagers were arrested and produced in court. Some of them were sentenced to more than a year in prison.

Another incident happened a few months ago, when in the same sahara, two teenagers were exchanging a kiss in front of a gathering. The video went viral on social media, following which action was taken against the youngsters.

Asked the reason for such behavior by youngsters, Ghamim Al-Yousif, chief of social service at the Psychological Rehabilitation Center, said these immoral acts start because of the absence of the family, school, mosque and relevant places for youngsters. He said setting up of youth clubs to harness talent and conduct positive activities could be one solution to the problem.

Abdullah Al-Eisa, a lecturer at a technical college, said adolescence is a risky period in a person’s life and cannot be ignored by parents and society as well. “We should do something about immorality, which is against religion and social norms. We should study this phenomenon and deal with it effectively,” he said.
