School or a business?

The news report “Al-Wurood school to review fees hike” (Feb. 17) made an interesting reading. The management cites several facilities to justify the exorbitant raise in the fee structure. But all such facilities that have been mentioned in the report are mere an eyewash. There are no labs, no club facilities; yet the school is charging huge fees under such categories. Many schools do not have even primary facilities like playground or IT, but fees are charged on annual basis. The condition of the girls’ section is worse.
Housewives with no prior experience or training in teaching have joined the school as teachers, getting salary in the range of SR 1200-1500. Our children’s future is surely in the wrong hands of these unqualified teachers. And the management keeps claiming that the cost of maintaining the school has doubled.
I request the Ministry of Education to take appropriate action to stop such ventures of high educational institutions from becoming a mere money-minting business. The school management in general has become more interested in making money than imparting education. And whenever this happens, education becomes the first casualty.
We parents request the management to first upgrade the standard of education, provide the best facilities and bring in qualified teachers. - Mohammed Hussain
