Solomon, Quejada bag Masters titles in UFTBR Haj Friendship Games

Rated bowlers Stephen Solomon (House of Donuts) and Lulu Quejada (Beauties and the Best) won the men’s and ladies Masters titles in the UFTBR Haj Friendship Games at the Universal Bowling Center here. Solomon came second in the elimination round and had to beat top qualifier Alfred Valencia twice to secure the championship plum.
Quejada topped the elimination round and gained a similar twice to beat advantage over challenger Ellen Bernabe who prevailed in the first game but lost steam in the second game handing Quejada the most coveted prize in the ladies category.
The Masters winners are as follows: Men’s division — Solomon champion, Valencia 1st runner-up, Ronald Bautista 2nd runner-up, Jobel Benoya from Jubail 3rd runner-up, Rudy Usudan 4th runner-up; Ladies division — Quejada champion, Bernabe 1st runner-up, Melay Valencia 2nd runner-up.
Results of the other competition events are as follows: Team event — champion Beauties and the Best (Quejada, Beth Danganan, Bautista, Joel Batolina); 1st runner-up 300 Rollers (Benny Mondoy, Edgar Buenaventura, Joel Lambo, Bobby Jamora); 2nd runner-up Mandirigma (Ric Ventura, Joe Rafael, Art Palustre, Ruben Tan); 3rd runner-up Ilocano Boys (Buddy Balisi, Doy Del Moral, Fhel Ramos, Rico Feria); 4th runner-up Rotunda (Ray Bautista, Rocky Manipon, Johnny De Asis, Fareed Aquino); 5th runner-up Jubail Red (Nap Apolto, Alice Apolto, Ruben Fernando, Glenn Evangelista); Doubles event — champion Beauties and the Best (Danganan, Batolina); 1st runner-up Incredibowls (Vic Barrazona, JR Raymundo); 2nd runner-up House of Donuts (Thong Asuncion, Nap Torres); Singles event (Men) — champion Johnny De Asis; second Solomon; third Atoi Ramos, fourth Buenaventura (Ladies) — champion Ellen Bernabe, second Cheng Herosa; third Rachel Tismo; All Events (Men) — 1. The bowling event was hosted by the Unified Filipino Tenpin Bowlers of Riyadh (UFTBR). A total of 33 teams participated in the 2-day tournament including five teams from Jubail.
The sponsors for the games are Sanyo Saudi Arabia through the efforts of Art Yukong, Lulu Hypermarket, House of Donuts, Al Rabie Saudi Foods Co., McDonald’s and Riyadh Pro-Shop. Cash prizes, trophies, medals and 2 Sanyo flat screen TV sets were handed out to the winners. During the awarding ceremony UFTBR Chairman Ernee Noto and event organizers head Cesar De Mesa thanked all the participants (specially the delegation from Jubail) and the sponsors for their support and for helping make the annual event a big success.
