Only one semifinal berth each in Group A and Group B remains up for grabs after last week’s games with Al Taj, Elite and SPIS advancing in Group A and PCBL, ADIS and Al Taj making in in Group B in the 1st Inter-School Bonafide Parents basketball tournament 2014 at Sheraton Riyadh Hotel & Towers rubberized court here.

In Group A, PCBL (2-4) and FGPIS (Future Generation Philippine International School) with a 3-3 card will knock each other out in their game Saturday and hopes to join Al Taj 6-0, Elite 5-1 and SPIS 5-0 in the next round.

A win by PCBL will create a tie at 3-4 between the teams in which case PCBL advances by virtue of the winner over the other rule.

RIS at 3-3 is still in danger zone and its only hope hinges on a victory by Elite B2 (1-4) over sister team Elite B1 (2-3) which play each other in the other crucial match Saturday. Elite B1, which defeated IPSR B, could prevent RIS from advancing with a victory that would tie it with RIS at 3-3 but become the team to go through via the winner other the other rule.

Palm Crest Team A kept its hopes alive by beating IPSR 64-63 in a thriller.

In a tense finish Palm Crest A escaped with the win on a free throw by Reynel Samson with 0.4 seconds left.

IPSR nursed a five-point lead at 50-45 at the end of the third period. On the onset of the fourth quarter Palm Crest regrouped and the blistering exchanges brought the game to a back-and-forth until the last tie at 63-all.

Also scoring victory to stay alive was Fugen which defeated MSIS 87-81.

SPIS won by default over RIS A which failed to beat the 20-minute grace period to their scheduled game.

In another game Elite A closed out elimination round campaign with a 121-60 rout of Palm Crest.

Meantime, Elite B2 claimed its first win in give games at the expense of IPSR B 88-78, while Al Taj B suffered its first defeat at the hands of Palm Crest B 86-78.

The semifinal will be another round robin affair to start on Tuesday, according to league organizers.
