The third Riyadh Triathletes event of the season was Duathlon No. 1, a 3km run followed by a 10.4km cycle then a 2km run.

Hot conditions at Ranco Farm saw an excellent venue within this private farm complex.

Once again a great turnout of participants saw 80 taking part including club members who raced on a bike for the first time on a challenging and technical course. Sadly, Ramon Mendoza, the club’s chief timekeeper, is leaving Kingdom after many years of supporting not just the Riyadh Triathletes, but also the Riyadh Wheelers and Riyadh Road Runners. The club would like to wish Mendoza all the best for the future.

Dan Bennellick stormed to a 1 minute overall victory having destroyed the remainder of the field on the undulating bike course. The quickest run splits were from Abdulmajeed Almuayqil who has been training hard during the off season. Second place overall went to newcomer Dave McNamara with a great first duathlon performance here in Riyadh.

First Lady was taken by Anne Morrissey with a commendable first ever Riyadh Triathletes duathlon race on a new bike, although Maria Ajaujo (first female vet) lost out to a win due to the transitions. First Female Junior went to Harriet Townhill with a very strong performance, but not quite beating her dad on this occasion. Other category winners were: Alisdair Wild (Male Master), Paul McParland (Male Senior) and Glenys Henry (Female Senior).

Up next weekend is the first full triathlon event of the season (swim 450m – Bike 12.5km – Run 3km), where the dynamics of combining all three disciplines will be very interesting on the leaderboard.
