For two consecutive Fridays, Dirab Golf & Country Club and Nofa Golf Resort played Ryder Cup-style matches on a home-and-away basis, with Dirab sweeping both rounds to claim the champion trophy.

On Friday, Nofa hosted the second round which consisted of 18 singles matches and the visitors winning by 11 to 7 points.

The first round held the week before last featured 9 matches with a four-ball better-ball format, which ended 5.5 to 3.5 points to Dirab.

Captained by Moroccan Bouchaib El Jadiani, Dirab posted an overall result of 16.5 points to 10.5 points for Nofa, a newly opened golf course located in Tibrak 85 kilometers west of Riyadh along the new Makkah highway and which is part of the themed leisure park Nofa Resorts Complex.

During Friday’s singles matches where two players from each side were paired off in one group Dirab’s twosomes of Joey Darcey and Rana Irfan and Orazio Moratti and Jan Franks won against Jim Kennedy-Gordon Rees and Tom Purcell-Noel Pearce.

El Jadiani lost his match against Richard Salisbury after his second shot found the water on the par-5 18th hole, but his partner, Filipino ace Resty Sibug, disposed of Steve Hunter 3 and 2 highlighting his round with an eagle on the par-5 7 where he deposited his fairway wood to four feet of the cup and made the putt.

Mark Campbell and Rusty Daggett, the reigning Pakistan Day Open champions, were on different groups for Dirab but then won against Alistair McIlroy and Kevin Hanlon respectively.

The other winners for Dirab were Abdullah Masoud, Ronny Lidman, Donald Hutchinson and Jonathan Mortell. They beat Barrie Gregson, Nishad Mohamad, Jean Marc Coupet and Paul O’Keefee in that order.

Besides Salisbury the others that contributed toward Nofa’s 7 points in the singles were Budha Gurung, Joe Smith, Mervyn Williams, John Davies, Ruhan De Kock and Nofa Golf Resort GM Eamonn Hanlon.

Gurung defeated Taj Rahman, Williams won against Tariq S. Khan, Davies against Oca Domingo, De Kock against Syed Shafiq and Eamonn against Azhar Hussain.
