Dunes and King Fahad Hospital (KFH) marched to their second straight victories while Recs 1 bounced back after an initial defeat during the fifth week of action in the Siglakas International Riyadh South District Unity Cup Basketball Tournament 2012 at the Dunes Compound Filipino Community basketball court in Olaya Thalateen area here.

James Bagawisan’s Dunes and Mike Cayabyab’s Senayah battled with equal intensity which resulted in series of deadlocks in the early going. The host team eventually won by 66-52.

Michael Gatchalian, Mark Pelagio, Edmund Icban, Nilo Bragado and Rex Badida helped Dunes take leads of 14-10 and 30-29 in the first two quarters. Dunes started the final period up by four points at 43-39 and stayed in control to the end behind Gatchalian, Bryan Querubin and Bernardo Alonso. For much of the game Senayah was without ace cager Ulysses Yalung, who played only in the last quarter.

Recs 1 of Jerson Dalida won a thrilling see-saw battle with Dumez Kings of Edwin Garcia and Alfred Navarro 73-68.

With prized cager Tyron Lopez at the forefront along with his brother Ron Lopez, Jeffrey Apigo, James Lacsina and Rejie Pasamon Recs 1 led the first three quarters by hairline margins of 19-18, 33-32 and 52-51.

Dumez playing coach Joseph Muli, point maker Aljon Oasan, Jeffrey Ocampo, Ariel and Rudan Pascua alternately supported by Ernie Cabiles, Larry Pergis and Ulysses Dacon were keen to duplicate their first win but could not stop Recs 1’s march to victory.

Unbeaten King Fahad Hospital of Ruben Sangcap handed Khazzan its second defeat, 57-38. Bannered by Marlon Adriano, Arnel Surio, Joseph Repollo, Jay Lobo and Hector Laurequez KFH jumped to a 16-7 lead to set the tone of the game. From 24-18 at the half KFH’s lead grew to 41-26 at the end of the third quarter.
