The centerpiece Open Rated Division kicked off with Friendster of Cris Melebo spoiling the debut of newcomer Wasalak in the big league with an emphatic 101-85 victory in their Friday matchup to round off the fourth week of action in the Filsama Basketball League 7th Conference at the NAI Juffali Compound court in Bawadi District here.

Friendster mainstays Christian Guimpatan, Jay Liam and George Pascual presided the team’s fluid offense to score 25, 23 and 15 points against the hapless Wasalak boys of Teddy Soriano and Ruben Villarosa.

Adrian Bulacan and De Joya scored 21 and 16 points in a losing effort for Wasalak.

Arabian Homes got the better of Bang-Bang All Star 92-84 in a thrilling battle of the unbeatens in the Non-Rated Division in the second game Friday. Both teams entered the game unbeaten in two starts.

The trio of Bantilan, Valencia amd Destreza with 20, 15 and 13 points carried the load for Arabian Homes in the game that registered 22 deadlocks and 18 lead changes. Toros scored 31 points for Bang-Bang and Mohamad added 13.

The first game Friday, Filsama Inter-Color between Green Toyota Sequoia and Blue Makati Foods was equally exciting.

The game was decided with a second left and the score tied at 77-all. Ronnie Mamalumpong drove the ball straight to the hoop, making the basket and fishing a foul. He then deliberately missed the bonus shot and Green of Teng Laguialam and Jimmy Abdullah Beltran grabbed the defensive rebound to seal its second win in four games, 79-77.

New entrant Al Tazaj paraded old reliables Bautista, Manalili and Huerto and scored its first win in the Non-Rated Division after beating Old Airport Islamic Center of Dodong Paraiso 93-89 in the third game Friday.

Manalili finished with 25 points for Tazaj with Bautista hitting 19 points.

In an Inter-Company Bonafide game that went to the wire, Danube Himalaya defeated Toyota Aurion 80-78.

After Dorado tied the score at 78 with 28 seconds to play Danube coach Ramil Martin sued for timeout. The execution of Danube’s final play went according to plan with Fuentes running the shot clock out to the last seconds before hitting the shot that swished the net.

With five seconds left, Aurion still had a chance to tie or win with a three but Paul Taguba bobbled the ball while being harassed by two defenders after he received the inbounds pass from Montano Dela Cruz.

Fuentes top-scored for Danube with 22 points, Gino Cilot had 14 and Destreza 11. Dorado and Taguba scored 29 and 12 points for Aurion.

In the two Inter-Color games Thursday, White-Friendster of Melebo and Rene Valle posted its third straight victory,114-73, against Black of Gary Santos and Boy Raras, while Red defeated Green 108-97.
