Jeddah Lanes ratcheted up the pressure on league No. 1 Moe-AFM by coming up with a Team of the Week and Bowler of the Week double during the 11th session in the Qatar Airways-AFTBL 48th Open Conference bowling tournament at Jeddah Lanes here.

The host team won a thrilling battle for honors with Sky Freight Forwarders to gain its back-to-back accolades and fourth overall, the most of anyone in the Saturday night league, with an individual award to boot courtesy of Igna Salgado.

Jeddah Lanes edged Sky Freight by 1 point 36.5 points to 35.5 points at the end of the fight for the week’s bragging rights.

Bank AlJazira, honoree in the week before last, came in third with 35 points followed by Taurus 29, Habagat 27 and MC Hammer. Idol tallied 20 points. Moe-AFM, in danger of losing the lead in the face of Jeddah Lanes’ consistent display, could only muster 18.5 points on the night, while Jeddah 5K, Lipton Chai Latte and JEM-FTBJ filled the last three spots on 15, 12 and 9.5 points in that order.

Despite having his hands full as the tournament in charge Salgado still managed to put together a performance worthy of a Lipton Chai Latte Bowler of the Week, shooting the high series of 659 on lines of 194, 227 and 226.

Keeping the faith in its five-man rotation, Jeddah Lanes got contributions of 624 from Rudy Valenzuela, 592 from Frank Afurong, 574 from Gerry Mandanas and 525 from Paolo Allego.

Over at Sky Freight, which failed to sustain its hot start, Rene Santiago led off with 595, Oca Bernabe had 582, James Galvan 541, Pancho Cuevas 199-191 and Bonnie Garcia 194-202 and Cris Villavelez 234-200.

Giving AlJazira a big lift was the quartet of Francis Goron 622, Jowet Carion 589, Atoi Cruz 586 and Randy Mata 585.

Taurus banked mainly on the trio of Jameel Gabrera, Edwin Ronquillo and Alex Flora who rolled 639, 604 and 597 in that order.
