CALI, Colombia: France’s Francois Pervis wrapped up a gold medal treble at the track cycling World Championships on Sunday with a triumph in the men’s individual sprint.

Pervis’s first world title in track cycling’s prestige event followed his victories in the Cali velodrome in the one kilometer time trial and the keirin.

Pervis defeated defending champion Stefan Botticher of Germany 2-0 in the individual sprint final.

The 29-year-old Pervis’s triumphant Cali campaign caps a season that saw him set two world records in December, in the kilometer and in the 200m flying time trial.

In the sprint, Pervis dispatched 2012 Olympic champion Jason Kenny of Great Britain in the quarter-finals before beating Russian Denis Dmitriev in the semi-finals.

Dmitriev won the bronze, beating Australian Matthew Glaetzer in the third-place race.

Elsewhere on the final day of competition, American Sarah Hammer retained her title in the women’s omnium with a dominant performance.

The 30-year-old American won three of the six events that make up the multi-discipline omnium, her points total of 14 giving her a six-point victory over Britain’s Olympic gold medallist Laura Trott.

Australian Annette Edmondson took bronze to complete a repeat of the podium at last year’s world championships in Minsk.

Germany’s Kristina Vogel added the women’s keirin crown to her individual sprint title, beating Australian Anna Meares and defending champion Rebecca James of Britain — who had done the sprint-keirin double at last year’s worlds.

Vogel, 23, had also teamed with Miriam Welte for the women’s team sprint title.

Spain’s David Mutaner and Albert Torres won the madison after a review overturned the victory of Belgium’s Jasper De Buyst and Kenny De Ketele.

Martin Blaha and Vojtech Hacecky of Czech Republic took silver and Switzerland’s Stefan Kueng and Thery Schir were third.
