Learning is a difficult task for most students. But it could be made easy by making it a fun activity. If learning becomes fun, enjoyable experience, many will actively learn.
That’s what students learned at a study camp held in Jeddah recently. Nearly 100 students from classes 5 to10 participated in the camp organized by the Indian School Parents Forum (ISPAF). All enjoyed the methodology of learning plus entertainment. The methodology focused more on activities than lectures. It helped impart moral values, in addition to enabling the students to acquire life skills through a wide variety of group activities and games.
Prominent academics Ismail Maritheri, Lakshman Sockalingam, Haseena, Jaleel, and Shabnam Kavumpurath delivered speeches. Sockalingam spoke on “BICS (basic interpersonal communication skills) and CALPS (cognitive academic language proficiency). The video presentation by Maritheri on parenting was enthralling. Sporting items such as tug of war, campfire and football matches were other highlights.
“Was the camp worth it? Yeah,” was the reply of a student after attending the camp.
It was the second camp held by ISPAF and was a great success. It taught students the importance of teamwork, the hurdles and challenges they’ve to face in the real life, away from the protective bubble they’ve grown up in and above all, to be a better person, a productive individual who grows up to contribute positively to society.
