Millions of Indians voted in nine states including important provinces of Gujarat and Punjab as also in some places in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh as the parliamentary elections entered its crucial 7th phase on Wednesday. The fate of those sealed in the ballot box on Wednesday included Sonia Gandhi, Narendra Modi and L. K. Advani.

The newest 29th state of Telangana also went to vote in which around 28 million people voted for 17 seats in Parliament and 119 seats in the state assembly.

Congress and BJP have big stakes in this phase too. Stakes are also high for the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal in Punjab, which has four seats and is locked in a bitter contest with Congress.

Other prominent names whose fate will be decided today are Madhusudan Mistry, Capt. Amarinder Singh and Sriprakash Jaiswal (of Congress) and Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley, Murli Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharti (of BJP), besides, Sharad Yadav (JDU) and Farooq Abdullah (National Conference).

In all, 89 parliamentary seats spread over seven states and two Union Territories went to to polls in this phase.

These include all 26 seats in Gujarat, and all 13 in Punjab; 17 seats in Andhra Pradesh, 14 in Uttar Pradesh, nine in West Bengal, seven in Bihar and one each in Jammu and Kashmir and Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

A total of 130.83 million voters were to exercise their right to vote in the polls spread in seven states and two union territories that will in all elect 89 MPs.

Elections are already over in 349 constituencies in the first six phases.
