• Humanity’s new low: Boko Haram (BH) in Nigeria kidnapped 276 girls from their boarding school on April 14. At least 53 of them escaped; 223 still in captivity. They were lifted in protest of their "education." Sick mind!

• Married off?: Unconfirmed sources suggest girls were taken across Nigerian borders with Chad and Cameroon; some were allegedly sold for bride as little as $12. BH is threatening to sell them all.

• World is outraged: Saudi Grand Mufti says the misguided group smears Islam; Malala Yousufzai’s heart goes out to the ‘imprisoned sisters,’ OIC is against this barbaric act; Mischelle Obama views it an unconscionable act.

• In Action: UK, US experts arrive in Nigeria to help find girls and nail the outfit; but Abuja was found slow in action.

• Blame Nigeria: An ineffective govt is making things worse. Amnesty says Nigeria failed to act on an advance warning about the raid that led to the abduction. President Goodluck Jonathan is proving nation’s bad luck!

• I abducted your girls: That’s what BH boasted of in a video. He challenged the world, and UK’s PM Cameron rightly called it a global challenge. We are best in words; they are best in action.

n Good media, bad media: #BringBackOurGirls did magic on social media to raise the issue; but most Western media seems doing a Boko Haram while dealing with the issue. It does everything to link the savagery to precepts of Islam. Difficult to rein in Islamophobic media that creates BHs!

• Faith of the fake: BH claims was inspired by faith to kidnap the girls. Hitler had claimed Christianity motivated genocide. Where’s the faith?

• A challenge: BH is a thought that has to be defeated. This thought is as much in Muslims community as it is in Hindus, Christians and Jews. Buddhists are only the latest to join this minority wagon. We need to weed out these germs of inhumanity to make the world any safer.

• The civilization: We have to make it different from the wild one. BHs and Islamophobic elements will only make things worse. Respect others and get respect should be the refrain of the 21st century if civilization is to be saved.

10 things about the terror group

• BH roughly means anti-Western education. Seems more a cult than a body representing any faith.

• It’s a terror network founded in 2002 by Mohammed Yusuf to establish an Islamic state with Sharia law in force in the northeast of Nigeria. Yusuf was killed in 2009 military action. Became more brutal after Abubakar Shekau took over

• BH drew world attention after it abducted the Nigerian girls in April this year. The group was acting exactly as per their declared plan. What was the Abuja plan, or that of the world leadership?

• The deadly insurgency that it waged in Nigeria since 2002 has consumed some 10,000 people till 2013. The NE states — Borno, Yobe and Adamawa — have been placed under a state of emergency since May 2013.

• In a latest video, Shekau spits venom against democracy, English education, Muslim-Christian co-existence and ‘non-believers’ Muslims. Men 'From other worlds!'

• BH considers it forbidden too to take part in any political/social activity associated with Western society, like voting in elections, wearing shirts/trousers, or receiving secular education. What about Western weapons, mobile devices, and videos?

• The BH act proves that children are vulnerable. They are indeed! There are 215 million children c• Previous attacks have targeted government offices and military installations as well as mosques, churches and English schools.

• US Congressional report finds Al-Qaeda hand on BH. What's the difference? One spreads terror, the other moral anarchy.

• Let's accept BH has caught the world leadership with its pants down. It is found lacking in wherewithal and wanting in policies to deal with such murky groups. It's a wake up call for all.
