As Eid dawns and we celebrate. Here are 10 considerations that you might like to take on board.
•Be grateful. For what you have. Contentment is more important for peace of mind than all the status symbols and material wealth.
•Be generous. This is a week-end for sharing so give whatever you can to as many as you can.Ever increasing circles should be the aim.
•Be safe. Drive carefully, don’t go near the waters if you cannot swim, don’t speed, don’t take on dares, there are people at home who love you waiting for you. Don’t be a stat.
•Be forgiving. A good time to get over the baggage of the past and drop the rage and the hurt and the sense of dismay by those who have let you down. Take them off your radar and feel better over it.
•Be with the family. Get close to those whom most we love. Time to be with elderly parents, infirm relatives, the family itself and friends to create that great togetherness. All too often we lose track of the obvious.
•Be healthy. Don’t overdo it, look after your health and enjoy the celebration. No fun if you make yourself unwell and spoil it for yourself and others.
•Be good. No seriously, there is no greater pleasure than the pleasure of giving pleasure. Make others happy, surprise them with something original and happy, you feel so nice to see others smile.
•Be spontaneous. Do a good deed to a stranger. Pay for a meal. Buy the poor some clothes. Do someone a favour and ask for nothing in return.
•Be with children. Play games with them, take them for a treat, give them quality time and see how much fun you have. A day on the beach, lunch at the Mall, just kicking a soccer ball, you’ll thank yourself.
•Be kind. In thought, word and speech, especially to those less fortunate than you or less powerful or those who depend on you. Visit a hospital, comfort the sick, hold the hand of the grieving, salute your soldiers and the men in uniform who keep you safe and do this all year round.
Make the best of Eid
