JEDDAH: Renowned Indian Urdu poet Malikzada Manzoor Ahmad died in Lucknow on April 22. He was 87. He has left behind six daughters and two sons.
Malikzada was also known as a composer, compere, educationist and above all a good humorist.
With unmatched skills of compering mushairas (poetry sessions), Malikzada won hearts of millions of Urdu lovers in India and abroad. He retired as head of the department of Urdu, University of Lucknow.
Several literary organizations have held programs in memory of the literary giant. He has rendered commendable services in the field of Urdu literature in various capacities, publishing numerous books on prose and poetry.
As a scholar and critic he received global recognition and has been bestowed with more than 80 national and international awards. His interviews and talk shows were a regular feature on TV and radio.
