Palestine’s Grand Mufti Mohammed A. H. Hussein is visiting Hyderabad to take part in a meeting organized by the Indo-Arab League to express solidarity with Palestinian people on Friday.

“During his maiden visit to India, the grand mufti will apprise Indians about the current situation in Palestine and the atrocities that are being committed on the Palestinian people by the Israeli forces on Palestinian people,” said Syed Vicaruddin, chairman of the Indo-Arab League.

He said the grand mufti, who is the imam of Al-Aqsa Mosque, is visiting Hyderabad at the invitation of Indo-Arab League in Hyderabad.

“The Indo-Arab League, established in 1967, is the first organization to support the Palestinian cause by initiating efforts to strengthen Indo-Arab relations. India, which has been a strong supporter of Palestinian cause since the time of Mahatma Gandhi, has recently been indifferent to their suffering,” said Vicaruddin.

Many eminent personalities, including former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi, I.K. Gujral, V.P. Singh, Atal Behari Vajpayee, federal ministers such as Salman Khurshid, S. Jaipal Reddy and chief ministers of various states, have addressed the ambassadors of various Arab countries at cultural and bilateral exchange events organized by the Indo-Arab League.

Vicaruddin, who shared very cordial relations with the late President Yasser Arafat, visited Palestine at the then president’s personal invitation.
