ISLAMABAD: A two member team of Scotland Yard arrived in Islamabad on Saturday in connection with the murder case of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Imran Farooq.

Geo said Moazzam Ali Khan, one of the alleged accused in the murder case of Farooq, has also been shifted to Islamabad, apparently in the wake of arrival of Scotland Yard police team.

Ali was arrested in April this year from Azizabad area of Karachi.

Sources said that Pakistani officials and Scotland Yard team would jointly interrogate the suspect.

Former MQM leader Tariq Mir’s alleged statement to London Metropolitan Police surfaced on social media Friday, in which he had confessed about Indian funding to the party.

The statement, given on May 30, 2012, surfaces following a BBC story accusing MQM of getting funds from India earlier in the week.

The news story claimed that two of MQM’s senior London-based leaders had confessed to receiving funds from India.

According to the statement, MQM chief Altaf Hussain and leaders Mohammad Anwar, Imran Farooq and Mir himself were aware of Indian funding to the party.

The first meeting with Indian officials was held in Rome, said Mir. “We were sure that Indians didn’t reveal their actual names to us,” he added.

Mir said that he arranged air-tickets and hotel stay for the said meeting.
