LONDON: British police say a man thought to be the prime suspect in the slaying of a family of four in England has been arrested in Morocco.

The Northamptonshire Police force says a man fitting the description of 53-year-old Anxiang Du was detained Saturday in Tangier.

The force said Moroccan police “strongly believe” that the arrested man is Du, who is wanted for the deaths of university lecturer Jifeng Ding, his wife Ge Chui and their daughters Alice, 12, and Xing, 18.

The family was found stabbed to death at home in Wootton, central England, on April 29, 2011.

Detectives said last week that they believed Du had fled Britain after the killings and traveled through France and Spain to Morocco.

British police said Sunday that they would seek Du’s extradition.
