The Madinah branch of the Ministry of Agriculture said that locusts that attacked Yanbu and a number of surrounding cities and villages had been destroyed.
An official said there was no threat from locusts once spraying operations were launched. The ministry got rid of large numbers of locusts by taking all necessary procedures to check their spread in centers and governorates.
Director of the Agricultural Branch Ibrahim Al-Hijaili said in a press statement that locusts which had spread to Khimal province in Yanbu governorate had been completely destroyed before reaching farms and harvests.
He said a number of work teams have been mobilized to fight locusts, and work was still underway through manual spraying in addition to using the mobile units of the Yanbu branch of the Ministry of Agriculture.
