JEDDAH: More than 8,920 prisoners including Saudis and expatriates have been released in Jeddah this year following an amnesty declared by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, it was announced yesterday.
“The committee for selecting prisoners who deserve to be released under the amnesty is still working to set free more prisoners,” an official statement said.
The amnesty applies on people who were jailed for violating public rights. Prisoners who have committed major crimes would not benefit from the royal gesture.
