Al-Amri rolls perfect 300 as Hidada hits double

What a way to rebound after a modest start for Hidada Ltd.
Just two weeks into the new Friday afternoon league of the FTBJ (Filipino Tenpin Bowlers of Jeddah) Hidada was the cynosure of attention when it completed a Team of the Week and men’s Bowler of the Week double in a prodigious performance made even more memorable by a perfect 300 game from Amro Al-Amri.
Al-Amri achieved the feat during the third game on the way to the day’s high series of 739 that gave him the Bowler of the Week plum. A zero handicap bowler, Al-Amri shot 194 and 245 in the first two games.
Hidada returned the top tally of 42 points as the week’s best team but its 18 points on opening day could only improve its ranking by two notches to sixth in the team standings after the second session in the FTBJ-ICBL 31st Conference bowling tournament at Jeddah Lanes here.
Qatar Airways was the second-best team on the day, hitting 39 points with early leader Jem Strikers adding 38 points to their first week total of 33 points.
Lance & Thirdy, bolstered by the ladies Bowler of the Week award-clinching display by Evelyn Santoc, pooled 35 points followed by Kulisap ni Moe 32, first week honoree Nasser Al-Hajri 29 and Pin Slashers 23.
Oriana Skiera Sato returned 22 points with D’ Barkads on 21, while Taurus RDLR, Avengers and Sky Freight-TFC were the last three teams to check in on 14, 12 and 5 in that order.
Hidada relied on a strong finish, winning the third game and overall output to steer clear of first game winner Qatar Airways in the race for honors.
Rene Martinez fired 605 while Giana Mata and Pinky Acato had 572 and 564 as the trio made sure Al-Amri’s big day doesn’t go to waste. Jun Palacios and Nanding Siasoco made valuable contributions of 199-226 and 182 toward Hidada’s total.
Qatar Airways whose players piloted Jeddah Lanes to a first runner-up finish in the last conference had Paolo Allego hitting the second-best individual score of 688 on lines of 289, 191 and 196.
Jeanette Cerbito was a surprise backup to Allego on 634. Marie Gumpal, the other player on QA’s distaff side, added 593 to go with the 579 by Tariq Sharaqawi, 201-179 by Igna Salgado and 188 by Nick Gozun.
Jeff San Pedro was the top man at Game 2 winner Jem Strikers with 612 followed by Jessica Fuenste 578 and Charie Guzman 556. Jess Pineda tossed in 189-225, Pancho Cuevas 255-243 and Gerry Mandanas 189-168.
Santoc rolled 642 on games of 187, 148, 175 at the helm of Lance & Thirdy, which drew 581 from Med Ramos and 566 from Fedelyn Bustinera. The others who contributed were Marcelo Manalo 171-164, Ross Isabiano 185-204 and Ver Jasa 191-201.
Al Hajri, bannered by the players of 30th Conference champion Al Zamil Metal, got a big lift from the 603 by Merlen Pamintuan, who got support from Bonie Garcia 537 and Len-Len Berina 526.
Zaldy Bacero added 237-234, Randy Mata 167-224 and Cesar Monares 187-205.
