Researcher Ibrahim Mohammed Badawood, executive director of Abdul Latif Jameel Community Initiatives (ALJCI), has obtained his doctorate in marketing. Badawood completed the degree requirements and discussed his Ph.D. thesis on “Mutual perception of CSR programs in private sector between companies and individuals” in the beginning of this week at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport in Egypt.
The discussion panel was chaired by Abdullah Sadiq Dahlan, president of the University of Business Administration; Adel Zayed, governor of Qalyoubia, Egypt; and Shareef Al-Assi, professor of marketing and thesis supervisor. The thesis discussion was also attended by Mahmoud Issa, former minister of trade in Egypt; Shihab Jamjoom, deputy president of the University of Business Administration; former Deputy Minister of Information in Saudi Arabia Abdullah Mana; and a number of academics and executives from the academy.
At the end of the discussion, Dahlan said that corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs are viewed as one of the most important issues discussed today, and that the recommendations made by the thesis are highly important and need a specific program for activation and implementation.
Badawood’s research addressed several important topics that highlighted awareness among individuals about CSR programs presented by private companies, as well as the effects of individuals’ demographic factors — such as sex, age and education — and companies’ demographic factors — including company age, field of activity and size — upon levels of awareness among community individuals. The thesis was based on an applied study of a CSR program in private companies in Saudi Arabia. The practical experience of the researcher in his position as the executive director of ALJCI, one of the first CSR initiatives in the Kingdom, was highly effective and helped him present an outstanding thesis that included several recommendations and produced important results.
Badawood thanked the discussion panel headed by Dahlan for their suggestions, as well as the thesis supervisor Shareef Al-Assi, who supervised the preparation and amendment of the thesis for a period of two years. Badawood expressed thanks and appreciation to Mohammed Abdul Latif Jameel, president of ALJCI, pointing out that he had inspired him to work in the CSR field and prepare such a study.
Badawood obtained his master’s degree in 1992 from King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah and obtained in 1999 a master’s degree in business administration from the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport. In 1992, Badawood took the position of the general manager of the Jeddah Center for Science and Technology, a project of Dallah Al-Baraka Group, after which he joined ALJCI in 2000.
