RIYADH, 11 January — Ver Cayago and the prolific Ben Carriaga displayed separate sterling performances to share honors on the OFWBR "Pasiklaban" One-Day Bowling Tournament held at the Inter-Continental Hotel Bowling Center.
Cayago, considered as one of the best players in Jeddah, and now based in Riyadh hammered the lanes to beat arch-rival Yuli Braganza in one-game series in the stepladder match via knockout system. Cayago scored 188 while Braganza rolled 152.
After the six games series handicap has been played, Cayago snatched the number position by posting a series of 1169. Cayago had on lines of 228, 212, 191, 168, 178 and 192.
Newly crowned FOBR winter games master champion, Aloy Mier came-in second with a series of 1137 while Yuli Braganza secured the third position with 1131. Grabbing the fourth and fifth positions are Benjie Domado and Rex Famadico who submitted an identical six game series of 1122. Domado got the advantage of securing the fourth position from Famadico through the high and low difference.
Occupying the sixth slot was the first Filipino bowler to roll a perfect score of 300 in Riyadh, the legend, Jimmy Medina who toppled a series of 1109. Titlist Neil Domingo and Ben Carriaga who posted an identical 1108 scores and who have a chance of entering the magic six lost the postion to Medina by merely one point.
For the second time around, Carriaga who controlled the games from game 1 up to game 4 as the undisputed leader and almost on the way of winning the title bogged down of errors in the remaining two games when he submitted a very low scores of 147 and 126.
Despite of this, Carriaga did not go-home empty handed. Carriaga emerged as the tournament high game scratch holder by scoring a towering 258 in the first game. With a low score of 137 in the second game, Yusuf Fernandez who have also a chance of making it to the top six landed in ninth position with a total series of 1091. Occupying the tenth position are Larry Mondoy and Rene Tanglao with identical series of 1089.
In the first game in the stepladder match between finisher number 4, Benjie Domado, finisher number 5, Rex Famadico and finisher number 6, Jimmy Medina. Medina rolled 210, Famadico and Domado downed a separate scores of 191 and 169. Domado and Famadico settled for sixth and fifth positions.
Medina’s winning streak in the next match was against finishers number 2, Yuli Braganza and number 3, Aloy Mier was stopped by foiled by Braganza to win the game. Braganza shot 184 while Medina and Mier had 158 and 140.
In the final game between the top finisher Ver Cayago and the challenger resulted at 188 ñ 152, in Cayago’s favor to win the title. Braganza settled for second position.
