JEDDAH, 17 January — The Power Horse, Arab News Cup Inter-School Cricket Tournament of the Western Province will begin here tomorrow with four matches at various grounds of the Jeddah Cricket League (JCL).
JCL President Shahid Amin, the driving force behind promoting and propagating the game not only in the Western Province but also all over the Kingdom, conducted a meeting of the representatives of the participating schools at which various aspects of the tournament were discussed and the draws finalized.
Arab News Editor in Chief Khaled Al-Maeena and Shahid Amin have been pioneers in taking the game of cricket to grassroots level through inter-school competitions.
Their efforts got further boost this year with Power Horse Energy Drink, through their Country Manager Hermann Ritz, agreeing to support them.
According to Shahid Amin, the eight teams taking part in this year’s tournament have been divided into two groups. Last year’s winners Pakistan International School, Jeddah (PISJ) A team have been placed in Group A along with Bangladesh English, Pakistan English A and PCS.
Last year’s runners-up Indian International School, Jeddah (IISJ) have been placed in Group B along with Alwadi International School, Pakistan English B and PISJ B.
Power Horse Energy Drink’s Western Province Marketing Manager Ahmad Al-Haroon has promised all help to make the tournament successful.
Arab News Sports Editor Javed Akhtar thanked Shahid Amin and his band of dedicated executive committee members for all the hard work they will be putting in for the successful organization of the tournament.
Fixtures for the first week: Friday, Jan. 18 at 8 a.m. — Pakistan English A vs. PCS (at Attar ground); IISJ vs. Alwadi (Hempel); Pakistan English B vs. PISJ B (Juffali).
2 p.m. — PISJ A vs. Bangladesh English (Milo).
