JEDDAH, 22 January — Pakistan International School-Jeddah (PISJ-A) trounced Bangladesh International School-Jeddah (BISJ-English Section) by 157 runs on the opening day of the Power Horse, Arab News Inter-School Cricket Tournament for the 2002 Arab News Cup, played at the Jeddah Cricket League (JCL) grounds on the opening day on Thursday.

International Indian School-Jeddah (IISJ) beat Al Wadi International School by 108 runs, PISJ (B) defeated PISJ English (B) by 127 runs and PISJ English (A) trounced PCS (American) School by 64 runs.

The opening day was marked by two centuries — one by Mohammad Rabie Zubair of PISJ (A) who scored 139 not out and the second century was by Farhan Ahmed of PISJ (B) who remained not out with 103.

Hashim of PISJ (A) and Harris Ahmed of IISJ were the main wicket-takers of the day. Both took four wickets each in their quota of overs.

Hashim and Harris bowled four overs each and gave away 16 and 20 runs, respectively.

In all eight teams are participating in the league – four each in A and B groups, according to JCL President Shahid Amin who supervised the four matches.

Three matches were played from 8 a.m., while the fourth one began at 2 p.m. Teams were introduced to the guests of honor. Power Horse distributed bottles of its Energy Drink to players.

The league table drawn up by JCL shows four matches will be played Thursday (Jan. 24) and four others on Friday (Jan. 25). Semifinals will be played on Jan. 31 between winners of Group A vs. runners-up of Group B and winners of Group B vs. runners-up of Group A.

The final is scheduled for Feb. 7 from 1 p.m. at Kanoo ground.

Fixtures for next Thursday’s matches (2 p.m.): PISJ-A vs. Pak Eng-A at M. Saeed ground; Bangladesh-English vs. PCS (American) at Saudia Milk ground; IISJ vs. Pak Eng-B at Z. Zahran ground; and Al-Wadi vs PISJ-B at Kanoo ground.

Friday’s Fixtures (8 a.m.): PISJ-A vs. PCS (American), Juffali ground; Bangladesh-Engish vs. Pak Eng-A at Otis ground; IISJ vs PISJ-B at Attar ground; and Al-Wadi vs. Pak Eng-B at Milo ground.
