RIYADH, 1 February — Yamaha Al-Dawliah woke up from a slow start to beat Paradise Catering 88-64 and bags the RBL 2nd conference championship crown recently at the Al Yamamah Hotel, old airport road.
The prolific Rey Manigbas scored 12 of his 24-point output in the fourth quarter to lead the team to a landslide victory over Paradise Catering. Manigbas backed by the tower of power Jeff Baybay who scored 22 points, John De Leon and Julius Morales added 20 and 15 respectively. Paradise Catering started productively in almost all angle. Dennis Almario scored 8 points and backed by Ricky Bautista who sanked in couple of three points and a two point jumper to lead 7 points in the first quarter. The absence of Eric Abellana due to an injury has hindered the offensive strategy of coach Romy Patagnan in the second quarter.
The lack of ball movements has produced several errors and turnovers that were successfully converted into points by Yamaha Adawliah in a dramatic reversal of the lead 37-35 at the half.
The third quarter, characterized by tough defense, enabled Lito Gutierrez’s boys to convert some charities and advance the lead to 8 points as the third quarter ends at 49-57. Paradise Catering squad feels the pressure early in the fourth quarter. Yamaha Al-Dawliah never relented to impose tough defense on Paradise Catering forcing them to take a shot in the field. They produce only 15 points for the entire fourth quarter; never converted a single charity and four players only have scored for the whole game that cost them the championship.
Meanwhile the awarding ceremony was spearheaded by the RBL chairman Abdulrahman Rolly Buenafe who gave the welcome address.
