RIYADH, 15 March — Four cagers of the Kapatiran sa Islam scored double figures that led them to victory against Al Arabi Decor, 85-73 in the 3rd conference of the Riyadh Basketball League played at the Al Yamamah Hotel.
KSI started strong early in the ballgame by putting in back-to-back triple points. Yusuf led with 2 triple points, Faisal and Badawi added one each to take the lead, 22-19 at the end of the first quarter. Ryan and Basit joined hands early in the second quarter by putting in back-to-back baskets and carried the lead to 6 points, 40-34 at the half. Coach Gerry Noga of Al Arabi made some changes in his lineup at the outset of the third quarter. Rado Patawaran scored 11 points two of which 2 triple pointers and Cunanan backed him by adding four points and trimmed the lead to two points at the end of the third quarter. But Basit, Badawi and Faisal joined force to assure the KSI of the victory despite the efforts made by Ray Tulud and Cunanan in the last minutes of the fourth quarter.
Paradise Catering outrebounded DasNet to snatch the 65-63 victory in the second game of the day. D. Almario led Paradise, scoring 26 points. R. Bautista, Solier, and Esguera added 8 points each. Paradise took a two-point lead at the end of the first quarter. Regalado and E. dela Cruz of DasNet shot back-to-back triple pointers to gain a 5-point lead at the half. Placino sparked in the early third quarter backed by Calma and Aguinaldo to retain the lead 50-47 at the end of the third quarter. Coach Patactan changed the strategy in the fourth quarter and bank on his experienced big guys for a power play to dominate the board and gained the 63-65 victory at the end of the game.
Meanwhile, TIT Electronics denied Meed Interkey of their second victory with a slim edge, 88-89. Both teams battled head to head in the first quarter and ended 19 points all.
Meed Interkey managed to take advantage of 9 points at the half. TIT managed to cut the lead to six points at the end of the third quarter. The game went to deadlock at the last minute of the game with both teams relying on the power play. Fernandez was fouled in the last seconds remaining in regulation and sank all the charities that gave a point lead at the end of the game. Jacinto top scored Meed Interkey by 16 points while Cesar Yalung led TIT Electronics by scoring 20 points in the game.
In the other game of the day, Donut makers bowed to Saudi Holandi Bank, 75-82. The bankers gained the lead in the outset of the game 11-19 at the end of the first quarter, 25-38 at the half.
Elmer Gomez joined force with Lodigario and Balmaceda to carry the lead to 17 points at the end of the third quarter. Dunkin Donut cut the lead to seven points in the last ditch to stop the bankers’ offense and dominance of the board. Policarpio finished with 26 points; San Diego and Estrada added 12 points each.
