JUBAIL, 29 March — The weather condition was not favorable to neither team, however, Filipino Expatriates Tennis Association (FETA) scored what they consider a big win against Bankers Tennis Association (BTA) in the clubs’ first duel in 2002 held at Al-Ghosaibi Hotel Tennis grounds recently.
Both teams came up with a strong and formidable line up of players but the absence of some of BTA’s key and top players proved to be a disaster as the team lost to FETA by just one point. Some of BTA players had to play 2 or 3 matches on that day while FETA players had to play only 1 match each.
To win the championship FETA or BTA must score two wins out of three meetings. The next meeting is yet to be decided. BTA vows to comeback from the lost while FETA is determined to win the championship for the first time in their second meeting.
The dual meet’s success is credited to Willie Basilio and Rene Icasiano, presidents of FETA and BTA respectively, not to mention the overwhelming support of the players from the two most popular tennis clubs in Eastern Province. The dual meet lasted for 8 hours. It started at 3 p.m. and ended at 11 p.m.
