JEDDAH, 5 April — Eva Ullbro with 36 points and Hae Cheon Kim with 34 points were declared respectively the women’s and men’s division winners at the 5th Volvo Invitational Golf Classic held at the Durra Golf Club and Academy recently.
The first and second runners-up in the men’s division were Ken Newell and Joe Huxter, both 33 points. In the women’s division the two runners-up were Kristen Mohlin and Ann Ericsson with 24 and 23 points respectively. The winners for Best Gross, Nearest to Pin and Longest Drive were: Bill Ashe, 34 points, Joakim Vessby and Ulla Uller, respectively.
The overall winner was the men’s division winner, who together with the winner of the 9th Golf Tournament held recently at the Palms Golf Club at the Riyadh Inter.Continental, will fly to Spain to represent Saudi Arabia in the Volvo Klassic World Amateur Final Tournament. The Saudi Business Machines presented IBM Think Pads to the tournament’s top winners. All players received a customized Volvo waterfall crystal of a golfer for their participation. For the fifth year in a row there were two Volvo S80 and S60 cars that went unclaimed as the hole-in-one prize.
"This year’s invitational tournament was held against the background of increased player participation and popularity within the Saudi sporting scene," Zahid Tractor’s Yousuf Khaja said at the prize distribution ceremony. "As many as 124 of the Kingdom’s finest golfers, whether Saudis or expats, have made the tournament a success," he added.
