RIYADH, 26 April — Tennis in Saudis is rapidly developing and improvements in results are expected in the near future. The change has occurred since the Bath University Tennis Team visited for a joint training exercise, Khalid Al Sayah, President of the National Tennis Team Association revealed.
“The visit was one of the most successful joint training squad sessions we had,” enthused Khalid Al Sayah. “The standards of the entire Bath team was excellent. It allowed for ideal group training sessions and has meant the Saudi players have made significant advances in their game since the tour took place.
“The Saudi players were also able to improve their mental game, which should enable them to know when they should change tactics during a match in order to gain the edge over their opponent,” he added. The Saudi Arabian youth team will be playing in the following tournaments this summer in Morocco May 17-23, Syria May-26-June 8, in Lebanon June 10-16 and in Iran June 17-21.
The senior squad will also be playing in Egypt from May 26 May-June 9. The Bath tennis squad and coaches visited the Kingdom early in March. They trained and played with the Saudi team.
The coaching staff also looked at all the players and passed on advise on how they could further improve their technical game.
The trip was organized with the assistance of BAE Systems as part of the Memorandum of Understanding that exists between Saudi Arabia and Britain. This Memorandum of Understanding has been exchanging sporting knowledge and ideas between the two countries for over the past ten years and helping to form stronger bonds between the two nations.
