RIYADH, 26 April — Power Horse energy drink, which holds 80 percent of the energy drink market in Saudi Arabia, has announced to sponsor more cricket events in future to promote this game in the country. This announcement was made by Ahmed Al-Haroon, country manager of Power Horse operations in the Kingdom, while speaking on the occasion of a colorful prize-distribution ceremony here recently.
The award-giving ceremony was attended by Austrian Ambassador Dr Harald Wiesner, vice president of Riyadh Cricket Association (RCA) Asif Saleem, Power Horse executive Thomas and Arab News staffers Javid Hassan and M. Ghazanfar Ali Khan. The cricket event was organized under the patronage of Prince (Dr) Abdul Aziz ibn Nasser ibn Abdul Aziz Al-Saud and Khaled Al-Maeena, the Editor-in-Chief of Arab News on the initiative of Javed Akhtar, Sports Editor of Arab News.
Referring to the role of Power Horse energy drink to promote games in Saudi Arabia, Al-Haroon said that “this drink, which boosts physical and mental performance, perfectly fits into the world of sports”. He pointed out that Power Horse helps to lower blood pressure, maintain functionality of eye photo receptors, decrease cholesterol level, develop hearing capacity besides improving proactive capacity among players.
To this end, Ambassador Dr Wiesner advised amid clapping from the audience that “it is always a perfect choice to watch cricket, while reading Arab News and holding a can of Power Horse in one hand on the grounds”. The Austrian ambassador, who gave away the prizes to the participants, did not hesitate to mince words for promoting this Austrian drink in his speech during the colorful prize-distribution ceremony.
Referring to the inter-school Arab News-Power Horse Cricket Tournament, Asif Saleem, RCA’s vice president said that “Arab News-Power Horse event has won the hearts of every cricket loving youth and student in Saudi Arabia. He thanked Austrian Ambassador Dr Harald Wiesner, Arab News Editor-in-Chief Khaled Al-Maeena, RCA President Qadeer Mirza, Power Horse Country Manager Haroon and other RCA officials for organizing and supporting the cricket tournament.
Referring to the profiles of some outstanding players, who played during the Arab News-Power Horse cricket tournament in Riyadh, Asif Saleem said that the Pakistan International School (main section) won the tournament comfortably under its dynamic captain Jibreel Rana, who emerged to be the best player during the matches. Rana, who played his last season in England, excelled in batting, bowling, fielding and captaincy during the tournament.
He said that Nasir Khan of PIS-P was another star performer besides Farrukh of the same school. Some other names, which won high commendations from audience and guests include Saadat, Khurram, Usman Ghias and Iftikhar from Bangladesh International School, Saad Usman, Hamza and Abdullah from Manarat Al Riyadh School besides J. Lohit and Razak of International Indian School, Riyadh. These outstanding performers are in addition to Daud and Saiful Islam, who played well on behalf of Pakistan International School, English section.
Sorav Gupta, played brilliant cricket on behalf of the International Indian School, Riyadh (IISR), during the Arab News-Power Horse Cricket Tournament. Gupta told Arab News that “it was great honor for me to represent my school, which was successful in making way to the semifinals”. “It was really a good experience to meet and match the players of different nationalities with excellent cricket skills”, said Gupta, who has several offers to play cricket from many cricket clubs of Saudi Arabia.
He called on the Riyadh Cricket Association (RCA) to organize similar events in cooperation with Arab News and Power Horse energy drink company. Gupta, who received a special prize for his outstanding performance, suggested to his friends to “play for fun, for harmony and for excellence in sportsman’s spirit”. This idea was supported by another teenager Abdullah Rashid of IIPS. Abdullah said that the Arab News and Power Horse should organize more events, which can cover all age groups, different schools and diverse nationalities.
