RIYADH, 24 May — A practice round was held on Wednesday in preparation for the annual golf tournament at the Dirab Golf & Recreation Center here. Most of the contestants participating in the event played this day.

In the first round of the tournament, on Thursday, defending champion Nasser Yacoob from Bahrain shot a blistering 68 for a one stroke lead over Dr. Don McLean of Riyadh (69).

In the ladies championship, Mrs. Seo Lim, wife of the first secretary of the Korean Embassy, shot a very nice 76 for a three stroke lead over Mrs. Woo Hee Choi also of Riyadh (79). The second and final round of the tournament was held on Friday.

The Golf Course Superintendent Bouchaib El Jadiani set up the course so the scoring wouldn’t be quite so low. The weather also was considerably warmer than Thursday, which contributed to higher scores as well.

Nasser Yacoob, shot a mediocre round of 75 to maintain his position of 1st place and defend his championship.

Nigel James came through with a real nice (even par 72) on Friday to take 2nd place away from Don McLean.

In the ladies division, Mrs. Seo Lim shot an 80 on Friday, but was able to maintain her lead by one stroke over Mrs. Choi.

Both the men’s and ladies defending champions were able to defend their championship titles for the year.

In the net division for men and ladies, the following winners were awarded prizes:

Men’s (1st) net — Mike Farage low net with a total of 134.

(2nd) net — Frank Chorley with a total of 137.

Ladies (1st) net — Ruby Klawikowski with a total of 143.

(2nd) net — Liz Gardner with a total of 145.

The presentation of trophies was immediately following the completion of play in the clubhouse with a nice buffet luncheon provided by French Corner. The presentation announcements were made by the Golf Professional/General Manager Jim Christie. While the actual presentation of trophies and awards was done by Khaled I. Abunayyan, Deputy General Manager of Ibrahim Abunayyan Sons Company and one of the owners of the golf course.
