RIYADH, 24 May — Aurel Farinas seared the lanes to post 824 series in four games to spark the Coolebraz past the Game Ka Na Ba while the Calabarzon II squad burned the lanes to collect 22 points to clinch the best bowler and the best team of the week awards at the 25th week of the Giordano Fashions/OFWBR “Payanigan” Wednesday Bowling League at the Riyadh Inter-Continental Hotel Bowling Centre.
The Calabarzon II team piloted by Jimmy Ocampo and assisted by elite players brushed aside the Pin Heads (22-2) of Egai Asuncion. Bankable Rey Dela led the Calabarzon II with a four-game series of 811. Jess Bersamin and Fred “katapat” Lim dumped a separate series of 770 and 768. Ellen Bernabe had 694 series while Benjie Domado toppled a series of 590 in three outings.
Topscoring in the Pin Heads was Ric Urrutia with 706, followed by Santi Herrera (694), Joey Geronimo (677), Bert Bantillan (626) and Ed Esmana (597).
Best bowler of the week awardee, Aurel Farinas lifted the Coolebraz by posting 824 series to record an impressive 18-5 victory over the Game Ka Na Ba. Unheralded Almer Cabangon exploded a series of 782 to came-in next to Farinas. Fellow Raul Medina and Larry Manalo contributed a separate series of 727 and 723 in four matches while Benjie Marfil added a series of 476 in three games.
For the Game Ka Na Ba captained by Rene Tanglao, submitting the best output was Fred Zacarias with 693 series in four outings. Jell Tan had 679 pinfalls to follow Zacarias while Rene Tanglao and Malco Muyco collected a separate series of 657. The sweet-shooting Gigi Enriquez rolled 484 series in two games.
League leader, the Pangasinan Strikers sparkled to rolled-past the Sunrise (18-0) and leading scorers in the Pangasinan was Pat Raz with 741. Ace Ver Cayago toppled 733 pinfalls while Mario Rosal, Joey Maningas and Yuli Braganza dumped a series of 708, 704 and 703. The Sunrise team, playing with two blind players, topscoring was Clem Salazar with 687 and next him are Glenn Mariano (670) and Eden Bergonio (638).
The Split Converters and the E-Banking teams snatched an identical 13 points to beat their separate rivals, the Wizards’23 and the Philippine National Bank. Now back to his deadly forms, Mon Nilo was on top in the Split Converters team with a series of 801. Jomari de Luna poured a series of 792 in four outings while Rolly Manalang and Dante Prado registered a series of 705 and 643. Joe Concepcion rolled a series of 478 three sets.
For the E-Banking, posting the best scores was Freddie Aquino C771), followed by Teody Zulaybar (696), Val Montalbo (681) Romy Generales (680), and Lino Bautista (457).
Meanwhile, the OFWBR Thursday Night Family Bowling League is set to open on June 20 at the Riyadh Inter-Continental Hotel Bowling Centre. Game will start at 7:30 p.m. and shadobowl will commence at 7:15 p.m. Those who like to join the league may contact Noli Ritual at 478-2024, Ext. 228.
