RIYADH, 24 May — Saudi Ceramic, United Friends, Lahore Cricket Club and Young Fighters recorded victories in the first round matches of Al-Rabie Pulz Challenge Cup 2002 day/night softball cricket tournament being played at Saudi Ceramic Grounds.

In the inaugural match of the tournament, Saudi Ceramic Friends Club beat Al-Rabie Star XI by 34 runs. Sarfaraz was the architect of Saudi Ceramic’s win. He played aggressively and scored 55 runs with two sixes and eight fours.

In another match played on Friday, Young Fighters recorded an easy 85 runs victory over Hazara XI. The highlight of Young Fighters’ victory was the brilliant innings of 81 by Razzak and fine bowling by Waseem of Hazara XI who took 4 wickets conceding 37 runs.

In another exciting match, Lahore Cricket Club beat Al-Jazirah C.C. by 8 runs. Batting first, Lahore C.C. helped by Niaz Khan’s 29 with 4 fours scored 145 for 7 in their allotted overs. For Al-Jazirah C.C., Asad was the most successful bowler snatching 3 wickets by giving away 21 runs. Chasing the target, Al-Jazirah C.C. were all out for 137. Rashed topscored for Al-Jazirah with 28 runs while Niaz Khan and Nasir of Lahore C.C. took 3 and 2 wickets by giving away 44 and 6 runs, respectively.
