JEDDAH, 24 May — A six-a-side cricket tournament was held as part of Sri Lanka’s 54th Independence Day celebration, at the ground opposite Saudi-Oger, Jeddah recently.
Sixteen teams from the Sri Lankan community took part. The Sri Lankan Expatriates Society organized a cultural evening at Albilad Hotel last week when Sri Lanka Consul General A.C.M. Ibrahim presented awards to the winners.
The Arab Lanka Cricket Club (ALCC) received the championship cup and shield and the Malay Cricket Club (MCC) were declared the runners-up. Other prizes awarded were: Best batsman Mohammed Taib of MCC, best bowler S. Sajid of ALCC, and best all-rounder Shahid Huraish Hibshy Mowlana of ALCC. Mowlana also won SriLankan airlines’ Riyadh-Colombo return ticket for being adjudged the man of the series.
The tournament saw keen competition from the 16 teams.
The winners had to give off their best emerge champions. (KSR)
