TOKYO, 26 May — Prince Nawaf ibn Faisal, deputy chief of the Youth Welfare Presidency, has expressed his optimism that the Saudi team, which is taking part in the World Cup finals here, would realize the hopes and aspirations of Saudi, Arab and Asian football fans.
Speaking to reporters on arrival here yesterday to lead the Kingdom’s delegation to the international soccer extravaganza, the prince called upon the Asian media and soccer fans, especially those in Japan, to support the Saudi team. Saudi Arabia is set to meet Germany on June 1 in their opening encounter in Sapporo.
Prince Nawaf, who was received on arrival here by Japanese Mayor of Chofu Yoshio Katsuyuki and other top officials, highlighted the strong Saudi-Japanese ties. The prince later attended a training session of the 23-member Saudi squad at Tokyo stadium on the outskirts of Chofu. He also met with the team’s technical and administrative officials.
