JEDDAH, 3 January 2003 — An 18-year-old youth was found dead in the elevator shaft of a building under construction in Aziziah district here on Monday, Al-Madinah reported yesterday.
Police investigations are under way to determine if it is a case of accident or murder.
The body has signs of a heavy fall from an elevated place down the elevator shaft. An autopsy report is expected to clarify if the body was thrown to the bottom of the shaft on the ground floor after murder or he was killed after somebody pushed him down.
The body as first noticed by a Pakistani guard at the construction site. He said an unusual object on the ground had caught his attention. Finding on closer observation that it was the dead body of a young man lying in a pool of blood, he notified the police. Investigators detected traces of alcohol on the fourth floor indicating the presence of more than one person in suspicious circumstances on the premises. It also strengthens the possibility of murder.
