RIYADH, 9 January 2003 — More than 80 Saudi businessmen from different sectors will participate in the fourth Saudi-Japan Business Council which will be held in Tokyo on Jan. 15.

Yoshitaka Nakamura, director general of Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), said the meeting is being jointly organized by Japan Cooperation Center for the Middle East (JCCME) and the Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CSCCI).

The agenda of the meeting includes a panel discussion on the general economic situation so as to identify the scope for cooperation in setting up joint ventures between the two countries.

The inaugural session, he pointed out, will feature opening addresses by Abdulrahman Al-Jeraisy and Hiroshi Saito, co-chairmen of the joint meeting.

From the Saudi side, Dr. Fahad Al-Sultan, secretary-general of CSCCI, will speak on the Saudi economy, while Atsushi Nakajima, chief economist, Mizuho Corporate Bank, will give a presentation on "The Japanese economy with focus on high-tech industries."

The second session, with its theme on joint ventures and investment, will hear a report on the Saudi-Japanese joint venture, ACWA Power & Sasakura Ltd., from its general manager, Dr. Mohammed Al-Fouzan.

Jarallah Al-Ghoraimeel of the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority will focus on the investment climate in the Kingdom. Professor Norihito Tanaka of Kanagawa University will also speak. A joint communique will be issued at the end of the session.

Nakamura said JCCME, in conjunction with SAGIA, will organize a two-day investment promotion forum in Tokyo on Jan. 27-28. He said JETRO and JCCME were also actively involved in sponsoring a spare parts mission in Jeddah.
