BHOPAL, 17 January 2003 — Political circles here in the state capital are in a flutter with the summoning of Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee chief Radha Krishna Malviya by the All India Congress Committee President Sonia Gandhi to New Delhi yesterday. This follows close on the heels of Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh being reportedly asked to step down by the party high command. Malviya has apparently been called to discuss ways to gear up the party machinery and strengthen the organizational set up in Madhya Pradesh state in view of the approaching Assembly elections. However, party sources did not rule out the possibility of Malviya being asked to step down when he meets Sonia. — Pervez Bari
