MAKKAH, 1 February 2003 — Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, imam and khateeb of the Grand Mosque in Makkah, yesterday called upon pilgrims to keep away from activities that would violate the sanctity of the two holy mosques.
Delivering his Juma sermon, the imam advised the guests of God to make use of their valuable time in prayers, worship and meditation, seeking the blessings of God as well as His forgiveness. The Grand Mosque overflowed yesterday with a massive number of faithful including more than 600,000 pilgrims.

JEDDAH, 1 February 2003 — Haj Minister Iyad Madani said his ministry would check whether real estate owners were following its regulations related to pilgrims’ housing facilities. “Any building used for accommodating pilgrims must receive a license from the ministry,” he told Al-Hayat newspaper. He said the government has implemented a number of new projects this year for the welfare and security of pilgrims.
New judges
MAKKAH, 1 February 2003 — Three judges will be appointed at the Grand Mosque tomorrow to issue judgments on thefts and pickpocketing cases taking place inside the mosque, Al-Madinah reported yesterday quoting Justice Minister Dr. Abdullah Al-Sheikh. He said the judges would study all legal cases occurring at the mosque and issue judgements without delay.
