JEDDAH, 9 February 2003 — The Islamic Endowment Organization has decided to send sacrificial meat to 12 European and Asian countries this year. Dr. Habib Mirza Alem, member of the organization’s board of trustees, said sacrificial meat will be supplied to Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Palestine, Chechnya, Ukraine and a number of Central Asian Muslim republics. The organization had sent sacrificial meat to 10 countries last year. (SPA)
Palestinians arrive
JEDDAH, 9 February 2003 — The first batch of Palestinian pilgrims sponsored by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd arrived here yesterday. The king had earlier ordered authorities to host 1,000 relatives of Palestinian martyrs for this year’s Haj at his personal expense. They are flying in from the airports of Amman, Al-Arish, and Cairo. (SPA)
Surveillance plan
MAKKAH, 9 February 2003 — The King Fahd Institute at Umm Al-Qura University in Makkah will analyze the system of automatic surveillance and monitoring for pilgrim buses to ensure that the Haj traffic plan is working smoothly. The new system relies primary on the geographic information system, communication system, reception unit and surveillance system. (SPA)
Beggars arrested
MAKKAH, 9 February 2003 — The anti-beggary unit in Makkah arrested 144 beggars, including 16 Saudis, in the first four days of this month, Al-Madinah reported. (AN)
