JEDDAH, 12 February 2003 — After being lost for hours along with thousands of other pilgrims, former World Featherweight Boxing Champion Prince Naseem Hamed felt relieved as he was guided by Saudi Boy Scouts back to his camp.
Speaking from Mina, Saudi Boy Scout Hassan Aboud Gharawi said that as part of their Haj duties, he and his colleagues have helped thousands of lost pilgrims at their station in Mina Al Jabal.
One of them turned out to be the famous boxer Prince Naseem.
“We really were surprised to see him among those lost pilgrims. Most of my colleagues could not believe that it was actually him,” he said.
Gharawi added that Prince Naseem approached them and asked for directions to the camp designated for pilgrims from the United States, Europe and Turkey.
“We immediately directed him to his camp and, as we were saying goodbye to him, he expressed his appreciation and praised the excellent work in directing the lost pilgrims Boy Scouts did,” he said.
The English boxer, who is originally from Yemen, is making his first ever pilgrimage with his family.
