RIYADH, 21 February 2003 — Travel Division lifted the sixth Kanoo/Norwich Union Insurance inter-division cricket tournament. In a one-sided final, Travel Division scored an easy 10 wickets victory over Services/Cargo at Kanoo grounds.
Earlier in the semifinals Travel beat Commercial Division while Services/Cargo scored a fine victory over last year winners Accounts Division. The tournament was sponsored by KLM-Royal Dutch Airlines, Sri Lankan Airline, Philippine Airline and Zaina International.
Winning the toss and batting first, Services/Cargo division started badly and could not cope with Travel’s bowling. Only Tabrez played well and scored 47. Services/Cargo finished their stipulated overs scoring 123. Vikram bowled well for Travel and took 2 wickets giving away 24 runs. Chasing the target, Travel helped by record unbeaten opening wicket partnership, scored 124 in just 14 overs with Man of the Match Lakmal Peries scoring 79 with 6 fours and 5 sixes. He was supported by Syed Zakiuddin who scored 33. Farooq and Rajkumar officiated the match.
James Milne, area manager, Central Province YBA Kanoo, gave away the prizes and Kiritharan, senior accountant, thanked all sponsors, players, guests and Kanoo family for their excellent support.
Special prizes were awarded to Syed Zakiuddin being highest wicket-taker & Best Batting average, Haider Ali for Best Bowling average and Lakmal Peries for highest score in an innings.
