MAKKAH, 6 March 2003 — Saudi Arabia yesterday announced the arrest of an eight-member gang of drug traffickers here with 108 kilograms of hashish in their possession, Al-Nadwah daily reported.

The paper said all the arrested were Saudis aged between 18 and 40.

The arrest took place in Sharaie after the gang was closely observed over several days.

The new drug bust comes following the arrest of the Kingdom’s biggest drug smuggler and dealer on Jan. 14 by Drug Combating Department officers, who also confiscated 1,125 kilograms of hashish.

Saudi Arabia imposes capital punishment on drug traffickers and dealers as part of its efforts to fight drug abuse.
