MANAMA, 19 March 2003 — Two women have mysteriously died after being struck by a virus, Member of Parliament Abdulnabi Salman told Bahraini newspaper Al-Ayam.
He called upon Bahrain’s Health Ministry to inquire into the deaths, similar to those from a mysterious virus which has swept through Asia sparking a warning from the World Health Organization. The deadly virus is flu-like and causes lung infections.
About 150 cases have been reported in Asia and nine people have succumbed to the illness, including two in Canada who had visited Hong Kong recently. The first death was that of an American businessman who arrived in Hong Kong from Vietnam.
