RIYADH, 19 March 2003 — An unidentified person was killed in an explosion at a house in the Jazirah District, northeast Riyadh, yesterday, an official source at the Interior Ministry said.
Interior Minister Prince Naif confirmed the blast, which occurred at 12.53 p.m., and said security forces had found arms and explosives at the house which was the scene of the explosion.
“There was an explosion in a house inhabited by a man and a woman in northeast Riyadh,” he said. In the house, police found three hand grenades, 12 AK-47 machine guns plus two rifles, a revolver and ammunition, in addition to highly explosive materials.
Security agencies have launched an investigation into the latest blast, the source said, adding that results of the investigation would be announced later.
