JEDDAH, 27 March 2003 — An estimated 200,000 foreigners are working in electrical, home appliance stores and the fruit market, Al-Watan newspaper reported. This is despite the ostensible Saudization of these sectors. The total income from these jobs could be as high as SR5 billion per year, the newspaper said. Large numbers of Saudi applicants withdrew from an open day for the gold and jewelry trade last week upon learning that their duties at the stores would include cleaning.
Whither Saudization?
