JEDDAH, 17 April 2003— A 35-year-old Palestinian stabbed his 73-year-old father, his father’s wife and his eight-year-old half-brother to death before committing suicide in Jeddah, Al-Madinah reported yesterday. His five-year-old half-sister was also stabbed, but is expected to make a full recovery.
After attacking his family, the man stabbed himself in the chest, dying on the way to hospital. The man is believed to have been mentally unstable since his mother died 15 years ago. He also had financial problems which apparently prevented him from getting married, according to the newspaper.
The man had seen a psychiatrist but refused to follow the doctor’s advice. He also failed to hold down any of his jobs. He had fallen in love and wanted to marry, but could not afford to do so, so he turned for help to his father. However, his father refused to approve the marriage, and his refusal sparked the tragic events.
