EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey, 7 November 2003 — Jamie Langenbrunner scored with 43 seconds left in overtime to hand the New Jersey Devils their fourth straight win, a 3-2 decision over the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday.

The Devils twice blew one-goal leads before John Madden set up the game winner for Langenbrunner, who one-timed a shot past San Jose goalie Evgeni Nabokov.

Turner Stevenson and Christian Berglund also tallied for New Jersey while Scott Stevens had two assists.

Alex Korolyuk and Scott Thornton netted for the Sharks, who were out-shot 31-14 in the game and 3-0 in overtime.

Martin Brodeur made 13 saves in goal for the Devils, winners of five of their last six games.

Thrashers 7 Sabres 4

In Buffalo, Yannick Tremblay grabbed a third-period power-play goal and Patrick Stefan netted on a penalty shot to give the Atlanta Thrashers a 7-4 triumph over the Sabres.

Ilya Kovalchuk, with his league-leading 12th goal of the season, JP Vigier, Ivan Majesky, Randy Robitaille and Serge Aubin also scored for the Thrashers, who won for the first time in four games to move into first place in the Southeast Division.

Maxim Afinogenov, JP Dumont and Curtis Brown gave the Sabres a two-goal lead early in the second period. Daniel Briere also scored while Taylor Pyatt had three assists.

In Sunrise, Jon Sim’s game-winner midway through the second period earned the Los Angeles Kings a 3-2 win over the Florida Panthers.Derek Armstrong and Trent Klatt added power-play goals for the Kings, who won their second game in a row.

Canucks 4 Predators 3

In Nashville, Markus Naslund had three assists and Brendan Morrison scored the game-winner in the third period to give the Vancouver Canucks a 4-3 victory over the Predators. Sami Salo had a goal and an assist while Jason King and Trevor Linden also tallied for the Canucks, who have won five games in a row and are unbeaten in nine. Vancouver’s Allen Suspended

for Breaking Swedes’ Leg

In Toronto, Canada, Sweden’s Henrik Zetterberg can take solace in the fact that the infraction committed against him did not go unpunished.

Vancouver Canucks defenseman Bryan Allen was suspended two games without pay by the National Hockey League on Wednesday for slashing the Detroit Red Wing forward Zetterberg in Monday’s game and breaking the leg of the 2003 Calder Trophy finalist.

Allen, who did not receive a penalty on the play, will forfeit $11,916 of his $1.07 million salary. The 23-year-old Canadian is eligible to return to the Canucks’ lineup tomorrow against Minnesota.

Hawks Name Pulford

Permanent GM

The Chicago Blackhawks realigned their front office Wednesday, taking away the interim title from Bob Pulford and making him the permanent general manager.

He took over on an interim basis from Mike Smith, who was fired in September.

Pulford served as general manager and head coach of the Blackhawks from 1977-90 and has remained in the front office since leaving those jobs.
