NEW YORK, 9 December 2003 — Martin St. Louis claimed a goal and an assist in the third period to nudge the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 3-2 win over the New York Rangers on Sunday.

The Lightning, who did not arrive until Sunday morning due to snowstorms in New York, won its second successive game despite trailing 2-1 after two periods. St. Louis tallied on a breakaway during a power play early in the third and also assisted on Cory Sarich’s goal at 8:23.

In the first period Dave Andreychuk grabbed his fourth goal of the season for the Lightning. It was the third straight game he had scored and the 617th goal of his career.

The rally gave the Lightning their first victory this season after trailing in two periods. Anson Carter and Greg de Vries netted for the Rangers, who have lost three of their last four games.

John Grahame made 29 saves in goal for Tampa Bay, which was out-shot 31-24, including 24-14 after two periods.

Mike Dunham pulled off 24 stops for New York.

Coyotes 2 Blackhawks 2

In Chicago, Shane Doan’s power-play goal with 1:07 left in the third period lifted the Phoenix Coyotes to a 2-2 tie with the Blackhawks. Jeff Taffe opened the scoring for Phoenix in the first period before Kyle Calder collected two power-play goals in the second for the Blackhawks. Brian Boucher turned aside 37 shots, including eight in overtime to preserve the tie and push Chicago’s winless streak to 14 games.

In Anaheim, Martin Gerber made 32 saves to back the Mighty Ducks to a 4-0 blanking of the Dallas Stars.

Vaclav Prospal, Joffrey Lupul and Kurt Sauer scored second-period goals before Sergei Fedorov added a short-handed marker in the third to earn the Ducks their first win in five games.

Marty Turco turned aside 33 shots for the Stars, who dropped their fourth game in a row.

Flames 6 Penguins 1

In Calgary, Shean Donovan’s hat trick powered the Flames to a 6-1 rout of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Jordan Leopold, Stephane Yelle and Oleg Saprykin also netted while Martin Gelinas picked up three assists for the Flames, who out-shot Pittsburgh 43-22 for their fourth straight victory. Milan Kraft replied for the Penguins, who have dropped three straight games.
